Answers to the SCORM Questions

What is SCORM?

SCORM (Sharable Courseware Object Reference Model) is merely a set of standards determining the exact command language that all applications will use to send data to LMS systems (Learning Management System).

There is a good beginning reference site at: http://www.rhassociates.com/scorm.htm

Is ViewletBuilder SCORM compliant?

Yes. ViewletBuilder4 Professional (not Lite or Standard) is 1.1 SCORM compliant. What this means is that Viewlets created with ViewletBuilder4 Pro automatically send out signals that can be read by an LMS that is configured to “see” the calls.

The two LMS calls that ViewletBuilder4.0 Pro Viewlets send out are:
LMSInitialize
LMSFinish
This means that a properly configured LMS system can detect when a Viewlet is started, and when it is finished. With this information the LMS can know when a Viewlet is viewed, how many times it is viewed, as well as the duration of each viewing. Additional SCORM-compliant LMS calls will be added with new functionality in ViewletBuilder 4.1, (and later versions). VB4.1 is due in November/December of this year.

How do I integrate Viewlets into an LMS?

The first thing to remember is that only Viewlets created with ViewletBuilder4 Pro will send calls to the LMS. The rest is simple from the Viewlet point of view: Just put the Viewlets on the same server as the LMS. The Viewlets automatically send out the LMSInitialize and LMSFinish calls. If the LMS is configured to receive these calls, it will receive them and process and/or report the data according to how the LMS was programmed.Inhalt erstellen...
